Dr Amanda Waijers

With over 15 years of experience as a curator and consultant, Amanda champions innovative and meaningful art experiences. She curates across a wide spectrum of media, from digital works and sculptural installations to performance and site-specific interventions, embracing experimental and innovative artistic practices. A skilled arts communicator, Amanda is an experienced adviser who enjoys helping artists grow their careers and specialises in protecting the conceptual integrity of artists’ work in complex, high-pressure environments.

Amanda delivers high-impact projects on time and within budget, exceeding expectations through meticulous planning and extensive stakeholder engagement. As a consultant, she delivers comprehensive reviews and policy development with strong community buy-in. Amanda prioritises working with First Nations artists and communities, ensuring public art projects are developed through meaningful partnerships and culturally informed engagement.

She has worked with major arts organisations such as Te Papa Tongarewa, The Dowse Art Museum, Lopdell House Gallery (Te Uru), and Sculpture OnShore. She has consulted for Auckland City Council, Hutt City Council, and Kapiti Coast District Council, and managed projects for corporate clients like Bluewater (Britomart). Artists she has collaborated with include Kazu Nakagawa, Sarah Hughes, Kereama Teapa, and John Radford. Her art writing has featured in Art New Zealand, Art News, Heritage New Zealand and Metro Magazine. She has a PhD in Curatorial Practice.
